Lluvia happens - boy does it

As I mentioned earlier, rain does happen and as it turned out the average for June which is 6.6" ended up being 12.5". So now comes July, our normal average is 9" and on this 10th day we've already had 8.59" so we're into the rainy season to be sure. I sort of had it pictured as these nice gentle showers in the middle of the night - well, lluvia happens.

The real problem comes when we get the occasional torrential downpour as happened yesterday between 4 & 5pm (yes, in the daytime). It had been raining for several days so this was on top of saturated soil. I headed out to the front gate to find water coming over the threshold and into the drive. Fortunately the casita and house are both elevated enough to prevent any water entering, but being next to the lake, the ultimate destination for all rain falling on the mountains above us, mucho agua passes this way. As can be seen by the pics of the July Flood water was several inches deep in the flower beds, but today it's all soaked in already.

The town of San Antonio next to me wasn't as fortunate, the drainage from the arroyos is being channeled more and more by development and these surges cause problems as can be seen in the pics. The mountains seem to cause differences in the rain fall with some areas receiving excessive amounts and others receiving very little.

And then Pedro pointed out this lovely wasp nest the size of a small coconut up in one of the trees. I found some spray and gave them an eviction notice, we'll see tomorrow if a second warning is warranted.

On another note the owners of the house were in town for two weeks buying furniture for their new house just east of here so I had a chance to meet them and they're lovely people, I enjoyed our time together. They moved the piano to the new house so I had to so some shopping to fill in the space, but I'll not miss dusting the piano next dusty season. They're in no hurry to sell the house so I may be here for a time, I hope so, I really enjoy this place. They're going back to Taiwan for another year via Venice and the Austrian Alps. Many of the things here in the house are from Tailand and other places so it was interesting to hear their origins.

So it goes in paradise, as I told a friend in TX the other day, lifeBgood for an old gringo and his cat.
